Delete data

The legally binding version of this document is the German original. This English translation is provided for your convenience only.

Would you like to remove certain data from DisTalk but keep your account? That is possible - and largely immediately and independently, without a request to us. This page shows you the way for each type of data. If you would instead like to delete your entire account, you will find that at distalk.app/account-loeschen.

1. How to request the deletion of data

Option A - delete yourself (immediately): You can remove most data directly in DisTalk yourself. The exact steps for each type of data are under section 2. Whatever you delete there is gone immediately.

Option B - request deletion by us: For anything you cannot delete yourself, write to us at admin@distalk.app. Please use the email address your DisTalk account is registered with, state your username and describe which data should be deleted. We confirm receipt and delete the data within 30 days.

2. What you can delete yourself - and how

Individual messages: Right-click (or long-press) your message and choose "Delete". The message is removed immediately and permanently.

Profile details: In the user settings under "Profile" you can individually clear or replace your profile picture, banner, about-me text, status and links.

Spotify connection: In the user settings, disconnect from Spotify - the stored Spotify data and access tokens are removed in the process.

Private notes: You delete individual notes directly in the "Notes" area. Via "Reset vault" all your notes are deleted at once.

Notes on contacts: Open the contact's profile and clear the note field - this deletes the note.

Passkeys and two-factor authentication: Individually removable in the user settings under "Security".

Push notifications: Turn them off in the user settings - your device registration for notifications is deleted in the process.

Your own servers: In the server settings, "Delete server" - the server is removed together with channels, roles and content.

Your own bots and apps: Deletable in the developer portal.

Server and group memberships: Via "Leave server" or "Leave group".

Friendships: Via "Remove friend" in the profile or in the friend list.

3. Which data we delete on request

On request to admin@distalk.app, we remove in particular data that you cannot access yourself - for example your accumulated experience points and level progress, your support requests or file attachments you uploaded that you can no longer delete yourself.

4. Which data remains - and for how long

Messages from other users: We cannot delete what others have written at your request - not even if it appears in a conversation with you. Please contact the respective person or report the content if it violates our rules.

Messages in other people's conversations: You can delete your own messages yourself at any time (see section 2). If you do not, they remain so that the conversation history stays comprehensible for the other participants.

Support requests and reports: We keep these for as long as is necessary for processing and for fulfilling any obligations to provide evidence. Records of rule violations (e.g. warnings, bans, reported content) remain for as long as is necessary to enforce our Terms of Use and to prevent misuse; they are not removed upon a deletion request.

Session and device data: This is deleted as soon as the session expires or you actively log it out. Under Settings -> Data & Privacy you can view all logged-in devices and log them out individually or all at once immediately.

Statutory retention obligations: Data that we are legally obliged to keep remains stored for the respective prescribed period and is deleted thereafter.

5. View your data beforehand

Before you delete anything, you can download a complete copy of your data stored at DisTalk in the user settings via "Export my data".
