DisTalk
Delete account
The legally binding version of this document is the German original. This English translation is provided for your convenience only.
On this page you will learn how to delete your DisTalk account and the associated data, what exactly happens in the process and what is deleted. You can initiate the deletion yourself at any time - directly in DisTalk or, if you no longer have access to your account, by email.
1. Deletion directly in DisTalk
Log in to the DisTalk app or at distalk.app.
Open the user settings and switch to the "Account" section.
Select "Delete account" there.
You will receive an email with a confirmation link. The deletion only starts when you click this link - so no one else can delete your account.
2. Deletion without access to your account
If you can no longer log in, write to us at admin@distalk.app - ideally from the email address you registered with, and tell us your username. We will check the request and then delete the account for you.
3. What happens immediately after confirmation
Immediately: Your profile is anonymised and your account is blocked. Username, display name, email address, password, avatar, banner, status, about-me text and linked profiles (e.g. Spotify) are removed or made unrecognisable. From this moment on, you only appear to other users as "Deleted user". Logging in is no longer possible.
After 14 days: The complete data record is finally and irrevocably deleted.
The 14 days are purely a safety period - it protects against an account being irretrievably lost by accident or through unauthorised access.
4. This data is finally deleted
Your user account including all access and profile data.
Your friendships and friend requests.
Your memberships in servers and groups.
Your private notes, your note vault and your notes on contacts.
Your registrations for push notifications.
Your experience points and level progress.
5. This data remains
Messages you have written in servers, groups or direct messages remain - but they are separated from your account and can no longer be attributed to you afterwards. The reason: they are part of a conversation with other people; a history from which individual contributions disappear would be unusable for the remaining participants.
Servers of which you are the owner remain together with their channels and content. If you want a server to disappear, please delete it yourself in the server settings before deleting your account.
In addition, data may remain that we are legally obliged to keep, as well as records of rule violations, insofar as they are necessary to enforce our Terms of Use.
6. Cancel deletion
As long as the 14-day period is running, you can still stop the deletion. Simply log in again - you will be informed of the ongoing deletion process and can cancel it there. Your account is then usable normally again. Please note: the profile data mentioned in step 3 has already been removed at this point and cannot be restored - you would have to enter it again.
7. Questions about deletion
If you have any questions, you can reach us at any time at admin@distalk.app. Detailed information about which data we process and why can be found in our privacy policy at distalk.app/datenschutz.
